DTC B1836: Power Seat Position Sensor Circuit Short
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
- Operate the power seat adjustment switch in all directions for at least 1 second each.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1836 indicated?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect power seat control unit connector B (40P).
- Disconnect these items:
- Slide motor/position sensor 6P connector
- Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector
- Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector
- Recline motor/position sensor 5P connector
- Check for continuity between power seat control unit connector B (40P) terminal No. 6 and body ground.Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between Power Seat Control Unit Connector B (40P) Terminal No. 6 And Body Ground

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -Go to step 9.
- Check for continuity between body ground (motor body) and terminal No. 5 of the front up-down motor/position sensor, rear up-down motor/position sensor, and slide motor/position sensor.Fig 2: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And Terminal No. 5 Of Front, Rear Up-Down Motor/Position Sensor And Slide Motor/Position Sensor

Is there continuity?
YES -If the front or rear up-down motor/position sensor is faulty; replace the seat frame assembly (see FRONT SEAT FRAME REPLACEMENT ). If the slide motor/position sensor is faulty; replace the slide motor/position sensor (see FRONT SEAT SLIDE MOTOR REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Go to step 10.
- Check for continuity between body ground (seat frame) and recline motor/position sensor 5P connector terminal No. 3.Fig 3: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And Recline Motor/Position Sensor 5P Connector Terminal No. 3

Is there continuity?
YES -Replace the recline motor/position sensor (see FRONT SEAT RECLINE MOTOR REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Replace the power seat control unit (see POWER SEAT CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT ).
