HFL Switch Test/Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see GENERAL PRECAUTIONS ), in the SRS section before doing repairs or service.

  1. Remove the driver's airbag (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
  2. Remove the steering wheel (see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL ).
  3. Remove the HFL-navigation voice control switch (see STEERING WHEEL DISASSEMBLY/REASSEMBLY ).

  4. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 3 and No. 4 in each switch position according to the table.

    HFL Switch 

    HFL SWITCH RESISTANCE CHART

    Position Resistance
    No button pressed About 1 kΩ
    HFL TALK button pressed About 185 Ω
    HFL BACK button pressed About 47 Ω
  5. Use a diode tester between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.

  6. If the diode tester is not as specified, replace the HFL switch (see STEERING WHEEL DISASSEMBLY/REASSEMBLY ).
  7. Install the HFL switch in the reverse order of removal.
