Malfunction Threshold

Malfunction determination 1:

With a completely cooled engine (one that has been off for at least 6 hours):

When the change in engine coolant temperature after 30 minutes or more of running time or 3 miles (5 km) or more of driving distance is 18 °F (10 °C) or less, a malfunction is detected.

Malfunction determination 2:

With a partially cooled engine (one that has been off for less than 6 hours):

When the difference between the engine coolant temperature after 30 minutes or more of running time or 3 miles (5 km) or more of driving distance the engine coolant temperature after the engine has been off for 3 hours and then ran for 10 seconds is 18 °F (10 °C) or less, a malfunction is detected.
