Check Power Steering Control Unit For Proper Operation
- Measure voltage between ground and power steering control unit connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Blue wire). See Figure . Voltage should be 12 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair fault in ignition power circuit.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect solenoid valve 2-pin connector. Solenoid valve is attached to steering gear. Measure resistance between solenoid valve connector terminals. Resistance should be 4-6 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace solenoid valve. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
- Ensure power steering control unit connector is properly connected. Check if heavy steering operation occurs during stationary turns. If heavy steering operation occurs during stationary turns, replace power steering control unit. If light (assisted) steering operation occurs, no faults are present and testing is complete.
