Bench Testing: Diodes

NOTE: Separate stator and diode assembly by unsoldering connecting wires. Use just enough heat to melt solder. Excessive heat will damage diodes.
  1. Using a DVOM, connect positive lead to positive diode plate, and negative lead to any diode terminal. See Fig 1 -7 . Reverse leads. Continuity should be present in only one direction. Repeat test procedure for each remaining diode.
  2. If continuity is present in both directions, diode is shorted. If continuity is not present in either direction, diode is open. Replace entire diode assembly if any diode is defective.
