I30 & Q45

  1. Ensure that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles below:

    Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Start engine. On I30, rev engine to 2000-3000 RPM a couple times and allow to idle. On all models, connect timing light to No. 1 cylinder high-tension wire. See Fig 1. Check ignition timing. See BASE IGNITION TIMING  table.

    BASE IGNITION TIMING

    Application (1) Specification
    I30 & Q45 13-17° BTDC
    (1) With transmission in Neutral and no electrical load on engine.
  2. Ignition timing not adjustable on I30. If ignition timing is incorrect on Q45, loosen camshaft position sensor mounting bolts. Adjust timing by turning camshaft position sensor. Turn ignition off. Connect TP sensor. Start engine and verify idle speed is correct and engine operate smoothly. Turn ignition off. Clear any DTCs that are set.
