TP Sensor Idle Position Adjustment
NOTE:
Faults in TP sensor circuit may set DTC P0120. To test system, see DTC P0120: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR diagnostic procedure in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
- Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure ignition timing and idle speed are within specifications. See IGNITION TIMING and IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE . Ensure fast idle cam is not holding throttle open (except Sentra 2.0L). Turn ignition off.
- On Frontier (V6), Pathfinder and Xterra, disconnect vacuum hose from throttle opener. Using a hand vacuum pump, apply vacuum to throttle opener until throttle opener rod does not contact throttle drum. See Fig 1. On all models, disconnect closed TP switch harness connector.
- Check continuity between closed TP switch terminals No. 5 and 6 with specified feeler gauges installed between throttle adjusting screw and throttle drum. See FEELER GAUGE THICKNESS table. See Fig 2.
- If continuity is not as specified, loosen TP sensor mounting screws and rotate TP sensor until continuity is as specified. Open and close throttle 2 or 3 times and ensure continuity is still as specified. Erase DTCs that may be stored in PCM and/or TCM.
