DTC Confirmation Test (Overall Function Check)
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall EGR function. During this test, DTC may not be confirmed.
Malfunction is detected when no EGR flow is detected by EGR temperature sensor under conditions that call for EGR. Possible causes are:
- EGR valve stuck closed.
- Defective EGR Control Backpressure Transducer (EGRC-BPT).
- Faulty vacuum hose.
- Defective EGRC solenoid.
- EGR passage plugged.
- Defective EGR temperature sensor.
- Exhaust leaks.
To check overall EGR function, raise drive wheels and support vehicle. Start engine (TCS switch in OFF position) and warm to normal operating temperature. Shift transmission into Drive. Check for EGR valve lift while increasing engine speed to 3000 RPM. EGR valve should move up and down without sticking. If EGR valve operates as specified, check EGR temperature sensor and circuit. See DTC P1401: EGR TEMPERATURE SENSOR . If EGR valve does not lift, go to PROCEDURE .
