Test C: Cruise Control Inoperative/Malfunctioning
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
To avoid misdiagnosis, ensure preliminary inspection and all checks have been performed. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION
under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
Before performing test procedure, inspect for proper operation of brakelights. Inspect throttle linkage for mechanical binding. Inspect cruise control cable adjustment. Ensure SIR coil integrity on vehicles equipped with steering wheel controls by rotating steering wheel to each stop position while testing cruise control switch signal circuits. EMI on speed sensor signal circuit may cause erratic cruise control operation.
