Diagnosis Procedure
- CHECK STARTING SYSTEM
Turn ignition switch to START position.
Does the engine turn over? Does the starter motor operate?
YES: GO TO 2.
NO: Check starting system. (Refer to "WORK FLOW ".)
- CHECK GROUND CONNECTION
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Check ground connection M95. Refer to Ground Inspection in "CIRCUIT INSPECTION ".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 3.
NO: Repair or replace ground connection.
- CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR (PHASE) POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-I
- Disconnect camshaft position (CMP) sensor (PHASE) harness connector.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check the voltage between CMP sensor (PHASE) harness connector and ground.VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS
DTC CMP sensor (PHASE) Ground Voltage (V) Bank Connector Terminal P0340 1 F5 1 Ground Approx. 5 P0345 2 F18 1
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 9.
NO-1: P0340: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
NO-2: P0345: GO TO 4.
- CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR (PHASE) POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector.
- Check the continuity between CMP sensor (PHASE) harness connector and ECM harness connector.CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS
CMP sensor (PHASE) ECM Continuity Bank Connector Terminal Connector Terminal 2 F18 1 F102 64 Existed
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 5.
NO: Repair open circuit.
- CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR (PHASE) POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-III
Check harness for short to power and short to ground, between the following terminals.

YES: GO TO 6.
NO: Repair short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- CHECK COMPONENTS
Check the following.
- Crankshaft position sensor (POS) (Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".)
- Exhaust valve timing control position sensor (bank 2) (Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".)
- Battery current sensor (Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".)
- EVAP control system pressure sensor (Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".)
- Refrigerant pressure sensor (Refer to "DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE ".)
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 7.
NO: Replace malfunctioning component.
- CHECK APP SENSOR
Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 15.
NO: GO TO 8.
- REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY
- Replace accelerator pedal assembly.
- Go to
"SPECIAL REPAIR REQUIREMENT
".
INSPECTION END
- CHECK CMP SENSOR (PHASE) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector.
- Check the continuity between CMP sensor (PHASE) harness connector and ECM harness connector.CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS
DTC CMP sensor (PHASE) ECM Continuity Bank Connector Terminal Connector Terminal P0340 1 F5 2 F102 96 Existed P0345 2 F18 2 92 - Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 11.
NO: GO TO 10.
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
- Harness connectors F107, F106
- Harness for open or short between CMP sensor (PHASE) and ECM
Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- CHECK CMP SENSOR (PHASE) INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
- Check the continuity between CMP sensor (PHASE) harness connector and ECM harness connector.CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS
DTC CMP sensor (PHASE) ECM Continuity Bank Connector Terminal Connector Terminal P0340 1 F5 3 F102 59 Existed P0345 2 F18 3 63 - Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 13.
NO: GO TO 12.
- Check the continuity between CMP sensor (PHASE) harness connector and ECM harness connector.
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
- Harness connectors F107, F106
- Harness for open or short between CMP sensor (PHASE) and ECM
Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (PHASE)
Refer to "COMPONENT INSPECTION ".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 14.
NO: Replace malfunctioning camshaft position sensor (PHASE).
- CHECK CAMSHAFT (INT)
Check the following.
- Accumulation of debris to the signal plate of camshaft rear end
- Chipping signal plate of camshaft rear end
Is the inspection result normal?
YES: GO TO 15.
NO: Remove debris and clean the signal plate of camshaft rear end or replace camshaft.
- CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT
Refer to "INTERMITTENT INCIDENT ".
