Inspection Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
HINT:
Operating the ignition switch, any switches or any doors triggers related ECU and sensor communication with the CAN, which causes resistance variation.
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the main wire and the branch wire.CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.NOTE: After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the main wire and the branch wire.
- CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (SKID CONTROL ECU WITH ACTUATOR BRANCH WIRE)
- Disconnect the A17 skid control ECU with actuator connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLETester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A17-5 (CANH) - A17-4 (CANL) Ignition switch OFF 54 to 69 Ω
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU BRANCH WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CANH, CANL)
OK: Go to Next Step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU WITH ACTUATOR - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND)
- Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the main wire and the branch wire.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLETester Connection Condition Specified Condition A17-1 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω - Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage
STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLETester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A17-16 (+BM) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V A17-47 (+BS) - Body ground A17-9 (IG1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU WITH ACTUATOR (See REMOVAL )
