Work Procedure

  1. PRECONDITION-1 

    With CONSULT

    1. Park the vehicle in a safe place and apply the parking brake.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON.
    3. Perform INSPECTION MODE 5. Refer to "DESCRIPTION ".
    4. Start engine.
    5. Select "VALVE TIMING ADJUSTMENT" in "WORK SUPPORT" mode of "ENGINE" using CONSULT.

      Check that "V/T DEFAULT POSI LEARN" is displayed. 

      DONE: GO TO 2.

      YET: GO TO  4.

  2. PRECONDITION-2 

    With CONSULT

    1. Touch "Next".
    2. Maintain the following vehicle conditions.
      ENG SPEED 1, 000 - 3, 600 RPM
      COOLANT TEM/S 50 - 120°C (122 - 248°F)
      ENG OIL TEMP 30 - 120°C (86 - 248°F)
      P/N POSI SW ON
      NOTE:
      • Make sure that the selector lever is in the P position (for vehicles with manual transmission, set the selector lever to the Neutral position).
      • Maintain the variation of engine speed and temperature within the following range during learning.
        • Engine speed: x150 RPM
        • Engine coolant temperature: x10°C (18°F)
        • Engine oil temperature: x10°C (18°F)
      • For vehicles with HEV system, simultaneously fully depress the brake pedal and accelerator pedal to maintain a steady engine speed of around 1, 500 RPM. (Engine speed will be automatically maintained while both pedals are fully depressed).
      • For vehicles without HEV system, engine speed is not controlled automatically. Maintain a steady engine speed using the accelerator pedal.
      • The display of the data monitor item changes to "OK" upon meeting conditions.
    3. Check the display of each item on the data monitor.

      Is "OK" displayed on all items? 

      YES: GO TO 3.

      NO: Touch "END" and restart from "Work support" menu.

  3. PERFORM V/T TIMING ADJUSTMENT 

    With CONSULT

    1. Touch "Start".
    2. Continuously maintain the following vehicle conditions for 10 seconds or more.
      ENG SPEED 1, 000 - 3, 600 RPM
      COOLANT TEM/S 50 - 120°C (122 - 248°F)
      ENG OIL TEMP 30 - 120°C (86 - 248°F)
      P/N POSI SW ON
      NOTE:
      • Maintain the variation of engine speed and temperature within the following range during learning.
        • Engine speed: x150 RPM
        • Engine coolant temperature: x10°C (18°F)
        • Engine oil temperature: x10°C (18°F)
      • If these conditions are not satisfied, the display of data monitor item changes to "NG", and "Not completed" is displayed.

      Is "Completed" displayed on CONSULT screen? 

      YES: INSPECTION END

      NO: Touch "END" and restart from "Work support" menu.

  4. PERFORM VALVE TIMING DEFAULT POSITION LEARNING 

    With CONSULT

    1. Leave the vehicle under the following conditions and wait for 10 seconds or more.
      COOLANT TEM/S More than 50°C (122°F)
      NOTE:
      • Wait 10 seconds after an increase in the engine coolant temperature to more than 50°C (122°F).
      • If "V/T DEFAULT POSI LEARN" displays "YET", rev up the engine to more than 2, 000 RPM then release accelerator pedal for 10 seconds. Make sure that the engine is running at all times during the learning.
    2. Check "V/T DEFAULT POSI LEARN".

      Is "DONE" displayed on CONSULT screen? 

      YES: GO TO 2.

      NO: Touch "END" and restart from "Work support" menu.
