The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor are Hall effect devices. Both of these sensors generate square wave pulses that are inputs to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM determines the engine position, the injector sequence, and the ignition timing from and from these sensors.
