Inspection Procedure

NOTE: The following procedure is based on the premise that the headlights light up normally whenever the light control switch is operated. If the headlight operation is not normal when the light control switch is operated, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article for 2001 vehicles or for 2002 vehicles STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.

Disconnect the theft deterrent ECU connectors located behind the instrument panel. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure the voltage. Connect the positive (+) lead to connector T7 terminal No. 10 (HEAD) of the theft deterrent ECU connector and the negative (-) lead to body ground. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If the voltage is 10-14 volts, check and replace the theft deterrent ECU. If the voltage is not as specified, check and repair the harness and connector between the theft deterrent ECU and headlight control relay. For 2001 vehicles, see HEADLIGHTS in 2001 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. For 2002 vehicles, see HEADLIGHTS in 2002 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
