Air Conditioner Control Assembly: Overhaul

NOTE:
When disassembling air conditioner control assembly, measures should be taken to prevent static electricity from damaging the system.

COMPONENTS: See COMPONENTS
- REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL ASSY
- Pull the air conditioner control assy towards the rear of the vehicle and disengage the 6 clip fittings.
- Disconnect the 3 connectors and remove the air conditioner control assy.
- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH FRONT
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Disengage the 2 claw fittings and remove the console upper panel garnish FR from the air conditioner control assy.
- REMOVE HEATER CONTROL HOUSING
- Remove the 6 screws and disengage the 4 claw fittings. Then separate the heater control housing.
- Disconnect the 2 cooler wires NO.1 and remove the heater control housing
- REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER AMPLIFIER ASSY
- Remove the 2 screws, cover plate and water-protective sheet.
- REMOVE COOLER WIRE NO.1
- Remove the air conditioner amplifier assy.
- Disconnect the 2 cooler wires No.1.
- REMOVE COOLER WIRE NO.1 (W/ LEXUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM)
- Disconnect the cooler wire No.1 from the air conditioner panel.
- REMOVE HEATER CONTROL BASE SUB-ASSY
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Using a thin Flathead screwdriver with the tip taped up with protective tape, disengage the 7 claw fittings in the order shown in Fig 9
.
HINT:
Bend the film (Black) forward to insert the flathead screwdriver from underneath the base into claw fittings (4) and (7) as shown in Fig 9 and then disengage these fittings.
- With all the claw fittings disengaged, face the heater control base upward as shown in Fig 10 .
- Slowly remove the heater control base.NOTE: If the heater control base is removed while facing down, the control knob may fall off.
- REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY JUNCTION BLOCK (W/LEXUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM)
- Remove the 2 screws and the multi-display junction block.
- REMOVE HEATER CONTROL KNOB
- Remove the heater control knob.
- INSTALL HEATER CONTROL KNOB
- Install the heater control knob as shown in Fig 14
.NOTE: Be sure to install the heater control knob in the correct direction if it falls off.
- Install the heater control knob as shown in Fig 14
.
- INSTALL MULTI-DISPLAY JUNCTION BLOCK (W/LEXUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM)
- Install the multi-display junction block with the 2 screws.
- INSTALL HEATER CONTROL BASE SUB-ASSY
- Engage the 7 claw fittings and install the heater control base on the control switch assy.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the display.HINT:
Ensure to push the 2 claw fittings shown in Fig 17 .
- Install the 2 screws.
- Engage the 7 claw fittings and install the heater control base on the control switch assy.
- INSTALL AIR CONDITIONER AMPLIFIER ASSY
- Connect the 2 cooler wires No.1 to the air conditioner amplifier assy.NOTE: Be sure to connect the wires with the sides marked in black to the air condition amplifier assy side.
- Push on the locking parts of the connectors to secure the cooler wires No.1.
- Install the air conditioner amplifier assy with the 2 screws, cover plate and water-protective sheet.NOTE:
- Be sure to fit the base to the groove on the cover plate.
- Insert the water-protective sheet into the heater control housing as shown in Fig 20 .
- Connect the 2 cooler wires No.1 to the air conditioner amplifier assy.
- INSTALL HEATER CONTROL HOUSING
- Connect the 2 cooler wires No.1 to the heater control housing.
- Push on the locking parts of the connectors to secure the cooler wires No.1.
- Engage the 4 claw fittings and install the heater control housing with the 6 screws.
