Park/Neutral Position Switch

NOTE: For park/neutral position switch continuity test, see DIAGNOSIS article.
  1. Inspect park/neutral position switch:
    1. Apply parking brake and turn ignition switch to ON.
    2. Depress brake pedal and check that engine starts only when shift lever is set in "N" or "P" position.
    3. Check that back-up light is lit and reverse warning buzzer sounds only when shift lever is set in "R" position.
    4. If operation is not as specified, check continuity of park/neutral position switch.
  2. Adjust park/neutral position switch:
    1. Loosen park/neutral position switch and set transaxle control shift lever to "N" position. See Fig 1.
    2. Align the groove and neutral line.
    3. Hold the switch in position and tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    4. After adjustment, inspect park/neutral position switch operation.
