Draining & Refilling
Add automatic transmission fluid. See Fig 1:
- When adding a maximum amount of fluid (*1):
- Lift up the vehicle.
- Remove the refill plug and overflow plug. See Fig 2.
- Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole. See Fig 2.
- Install a gasket and overflow plug. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Refill ATF to the refill hole. See FLUID CAPACITIES .
- Install a gasket and refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower down the vehicle.
- Using an SST, short-circuit between terminals TC and CG of the DLC3. SST (09843-18040). See Fig 3.
- Start the engine.
- Slowly move the shift lever from the "P" to the 2-L position. Return the shift lever to the "P" position.
- Switch to the fluid temperature detection mode:
- Move the shift lever from the "N" to the 4D position, or from 4D to "N", within 1.5 seconds.
- Perform the above procedure for 6 seconds or more.
- Disconnect terminal TC and CG after confirming the above condition.
- Idle the engine to raise fluid temperature.
- Add fluid only when the meter indicator light is on.
- Perform the procedure while the engine is idling. See Fig 5.
- Lift up the vehicle right after the meter indicator light "ATF temperature warning lamp" comes on. See Fig 4.
- Remove the overflow plug.
NOTE: Keeping it level.CAUTION: Be sure to add ATF WS.CAUTION: Refill amount is different depending on the related procedures.NOTE: Turn the A/C off.NOTE: Standard: Meter indicator lamp "ATF temperature warning lamp" comes on for 2 seconds and then goes off. See Fig 4.NOTE:NOTE: Capacity of the overflow tube is approximately 3 cc. - When fluid overflow (*2):
- Install a new gasket and overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install a new "O" ring and refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower down the vehicle.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- When fluid does not overflow (*3):
- Remove the refill plug. See Fig 2.
- Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole.
- When adding a minimum amount of fluid (*4):
- Using an SST, short-circuit between terminals TC and CG of the DLC3. SST (09843-18040). See Fig 3.
- Start the engine.
- Slowly move the shift lever from the "P" to the 2-L position. Return the shift lever to the "P" position.
- Switch to the fluid temperature detection mode: See Fig 4:
- Move the shift lever from the "N" to the 4D position, or from 4D to "N", within 1.5 seconds.
- Perform the above procedure for 6 seconds or more.
- Disconnect terminal TC and CG after confirming the above condition.
- Idle the engine to increase fluid temperature.
- Add fluid only when the meter indicator light is on.
- Perform the procedure while the engine is idling. See Fig 5.
- Lift up the vehicle right after the meter indicator light "ATF temperature warning lamp" comes on. See Fig 4.
- Remove the overflow plug. See Fig 2.
NOTE: Turn the A/C off.NOTE: Standard: Meter indicator lamp "ATF temperature warning lamp" comes on for 2 seconds and then goes off. See Fig 4.NOTE: - When fluid overflows (*5): See Fig 2.
- Turn the ignition switch off and remove the SST.
- When fluid does not overflow (*6):
- Remove the refill plug. See Fig 2.
- Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole.
- Install a new gasket and overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install a new gasket and refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
