Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus GS 430 and 2002 Lexus GS 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If using the hand-held tester, start the inspection from step  1 and if not using the hand-held tester, start from step  2.
  1. Check the mirror position sensor using the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Check that the voltage of the mirror position sensor using DATA LIST. When operating the mirror motor, voltage should have a smooth change within the range. See INSPECTING MIRROR POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE  table. If the voltage is as specified, check the appropriate door ECU (driver or passenger). See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . If the voltage is not as specified, go to the next step.
    INSPECTING MIRROR POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE

    Direction Voltage
    Vertical 0.27-3.80 V
    Horizontal 0.23-4.01 V
  2. Check the mirror position sensor. See POWER MIRROR POSITION SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the outer mirror. See OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Check the wire harness and connector between the mirror position sensor and appropriate door ECU (driver or passenger). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If the results are OK, check the appropriate door ECU (driver or passenger). See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . If the results are not good, repair or replace the wire harness or connector.
