Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lexus RX 350. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When the distance control ECU is replaced with a new one, initialization must be performed (See ADJUSTMENT  ).
  1. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Turn the ignition switch on.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D2-16 (MODE) - D2-12 (GND) Distance control switch ON (pushed) 0 to 2V
      Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 to 14 V

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  2. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the D2 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      D2-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 1 Ω
      Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

    OK: CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DISTANCE CONTROL ECU - SPIRAL CABLE) 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering pad (See REMOVAL ).

    2. Disconnect the K1 connector from the spiral cable.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K1-4 (DIST) - K1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 1 Ω
      K1-4 (DIST) - K1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

    OK: Go to step   6 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  4. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH CABLE 
    1. Remove the steering pad switch cable.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B-1 (DIST) - C-1 (DIST) Always Below 1 Ω
      B-7 (ECC) - C-7 (ECC) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH CABLE 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH RH 
    1. Connect the steering pad switch cable to the steering pad switch RH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B-1 (DIST) - B-7 (ECC) Distance control switch ON Below 1 Ω
      B-1 (DIST) - C-7 (ECC) Distance control switch OFF 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH 

    OK: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH LH 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DISTANCE CONTROL ECU - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT:

    1. Remove the spiral cable.
    2. Disconnect the D2 connector from the distance control ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-11 (DIST) - D2-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-11 (DIST) - Body ground Distance control switch OFF 10 kΩ or higher
      Distance control switch ON Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE
