On-Vehicle Inspection

- CHECK INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK (INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE)
- Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.
- Inspection procedure when using the intelligent tester:
- Stop the engine.
- Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and turn the intelligent tester main switch ON.
- Select the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / INTAKE CTL VSV1. Press the right or left button.
- Make sure that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve when current flows.
- Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:
- Disconnect the connector from the intake air control valve.
- Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 (+) and 2 (-) of the intake air control valve. Check that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve.
- Reinstall the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts.
- CHECK INTAKE MANIFOLD (SWIRL CONTROL VALVE)
- Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.
- Check that the swirl control valve activation link (on the front of the intake manifold) is moving to confirm that the swirl control valve is operating.
- After the engine switch is turned off, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10° and the fully open position.
- After the engine is started, confirm that the swirl control valve is fully closed with the engine idling.
- After the engine switch is turned off again, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10° and the fully open position.
- Inspection procedure when using the intelligent tester:
- Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and turn the intelligent tester main switch ON.
- Select the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / SCV DUTY RATIO. Press the right or left button.NOTE: This test procedure must be completed within 10 seconds.
- Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.
- Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:
- Disconnect the connector from the swirl control valve.
- Alternately apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2 of the swirl control valve.
- Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance: 1 to 19 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
If the result is not as specified, replace the intake manifold.
