On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. CHECK INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK (INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE) 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.
    2. Inspection procedure when using the intelligent tester:
      1. Stop the engine.
      2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      4. Start the engine and turn the intelligent tester main switch ON.
      5. Select the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / INTAKE CTL VSV1. Press the right or left button.
      6. Make sure that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve when current flows.
    3. Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:
      1. Disconnect the connector from the intake air control valve.
      2. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 (+) and 2 (-) of the intake air control valve. Check that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve.

    4. Reinstall the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts.
  2. CHECK INTAKE MANIFOLD (SWIRL CONTROL VALVE) 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.
    2. Check that the swirl control valve activation link (on the front of the intake manifold) is moving to confirm that the swirl control valve is operating.

      1. After the engine switch is turned off, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10° and the fully open position.
      2. After the engine is started, confirm that the swirl control valve is fully closed with the engine idling.
      3. After the engine switch is turned off again, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10° and the fully open position.
    3. Inspection procedure when using the intelligent tester:
      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Start the engine and turn the intelligent tester main switch ON.
      3. Select the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / SCV DUTY RATIO. Press the right or left button.
        NOTE: This test procedure must be completed within 10 seconds.
      4. Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.

    4. Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:
      1. Disconnect the connector from the swirl control valve.
      2. Alternately apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2 of the swirl control valve.
      3. Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.

    5. Measure the resistance between the terminals.

    Standard resistance: 1 to 19 Ω at 20°C (68°F) 

    If the result is not as specified, replace the intake manifold.
