Inspection Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
  2. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check for DTC (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      OK : 

      DTC B2416 output does not occur. 

    NG: Go to step 3 

    OK: NORMAL 

  3. CHECK VEHICLE SYSTEM 
    1. Check vehicle system.

      Result: 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      w/ Coil Suspension A
      w/ Air Suspension B

    B: Go to step   10 

    A: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR) 
    1. Using the intelligent tester or Techstream, read the Data List.
      1. Intelligent tester

        AFS 

        INTELLIGENT TESTER - AFS

      2. Techstream

        OK : 

        Normal conditions listed above are displayed. 

    NG: Go to step 5 

    OK: REPLACE AFS ECU (See  REMOVAL   ) 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the A37 ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the S65 and A4 sensor connectors.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      AFS ECU - HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A37-18 (SBR) - S65-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-19 (SHRL) - S65-2 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-21 (SGR) - S65-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-18 (SBR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-19 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-21 (SGR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-17 (SHFL)-A4-2 (SHFL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-18 (SBR)-A4-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-21 (SGR) - A4-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-17 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. CHECK AFS ECU (SBR - SGR VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the A37 ECU connector.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      AFS ECU (SBR - SGR VOLTAGE)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A37-18 (SBR) - A37-21 (SGR) Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

    NG: REPLACE AFS ECU (See  REMOVAL   ) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  7. INSPECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the batteries to terminal 3, and the negative (-) lead from the batteries to terminal 1.
    3. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard voltage 

      FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHFL) -1 (SHG) +45° (High) 4.05 V
      +45° (Normal) 2.25 V
      -45° (Low) 0.45 V

    NG: REPLACE FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL   ) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  8. INSPECT REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) in series.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the batteries to terminal 3, and the negative (-) lead from the batteries to terminal 1.
    3. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 1 while slowly moving the link up and down.

      Standard voltage 

      REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (SHRL) -1 (SHG) +45° (High) 4.05 V
      0° (Normal) 2.25 V
      -45° (Low) 0.45 V

    NG: REPLACE REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL   ) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  9. INSPECT REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR LH WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the S65 and A wire connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR LH WIRE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 - S65-1 (SHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A-2 - S65-2 (SHRL) Always Below 1 Ω
      A-3 - S65-3 (SHB) Always Below 1 Ω
      A-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR LH WIRE 

    OK: REPLACE AFS ECU (See  REMOVAL   ) 

  10. CHECK DTC (AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM) 
    1. Check for DTC (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

      Result 

      DTC (AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM)

      Result Proceed to
      DTC "C1712/12 Front Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction" and "C1714/14 Rear Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction" output do not occur A
      DTC "C1712/12 Front Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction" or "C1714/14 Rear Height Control Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction" output occurs B

    B: GO TO AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    A: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  11. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (AFS ECU) 
    1. Using the intelligent tester or Techstream, read the Data List.
      1. Intelligent tester

  12. CHECK SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A39-23 (SBL3) - A39-24 (SGL3) Engine switch on (IG) Approx. 5 V
      A39-21 (SHF2) - A39-24 (SGL3) While engine is running, height control switch is changed from HIGH to NORM, and vehicle height adjustment is finished Approx. 2.5 V
      A39-19 (SHR2)-A39-24 (SGL3) While engine is running, height control switch is changed from HIGH to NORM, and vehicle height adjustment is finished Approx. 2.5 V
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A39-24 (SGL3) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AFS ECU - SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the A37 and A39 ECU connectors.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      AFS ECU - SUSPENSION CONTROL ECU

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A37-17 (SHFL)-A39-21 (SHF2) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-18 (SBR)-A39-23 (SBL3) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-19 (SHRL)-A39-19 (SHR2) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-21 (SGR) - A39-24 (SGL3) Always Below 1 Ω
      A37-17 (SHFL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-18 (SBR) -Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-19 (SHRL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A37-21 (SGR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE AFS ECU (See  REMOVAL   )
