Steering Column Assembly: Installation
HINT:
A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (see SPECIFIED TORQUE FOR STANDARD BOLTS ).
- INSTALL STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Temporarily install the steering sliding yoke with the bolt.
- INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
- Install the steering column with the 2 column set bolts and 2 column set nuts.
Torque: 25 N*m (260 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf)
- Install the bolt to tighten the hole cover clamp.
- Install the brake pedal return spring.
- Connect the connectors.
- Install the steering column with the 2 column set bolts and 2 column set nuts.
- INSTALL STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke and control valve shaft.
- Install the bolt labeled B and tighten the bolt labeled A.
Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL NO. 4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- Install the 3 clips to install the duct.
- INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LOWER (See INSTALLATION )
- INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
- INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
- INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Install the turn signal switch with spiral cable with the 3 screws.
- Connect the airbag connector.
- Connect the 4 connectors.
- INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
- INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
- Install the steering column cover lower with the 3 screws.
- INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
- CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (See REMOVAL )
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
- Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.
- Install the wheel set nut.
Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
- Connect the connector.
- INSTALL STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY NOTE:
- Never use airbag parts removed from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed with the specified torque.
- If the steering pad is dropped or there are cracks, dents or other defects on the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the steering pad, make sure that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and that they are not pinched between other parts.
- Connect the terminal.
- Connect the connectors to the steering pad.
- Install the steering wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the "TORX" screws is caught on the screw case.
- Use a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, tighten the 2 "TORX" screws.

Torque: 8.8 N*m (90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER
- INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR
- Connect the connector.
- Install the steering pad switch modulator with the 2 screws.
- INSTALL SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE
- Attach the 3 claws to install the switch and volume case.
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
- INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the SRS warning light (see DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION
- Perform initialization (see
INITIALIZATION
).NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
