Engine Unit: Installation

  1. INSTALL NO. 3 V-BANK COVER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the No. 3 V-bank cover bracket sub-assembly with the bolt

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

  2. INSTALL NO. 4 V-BANK COVER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the No. 4 V-bank cover bracket sub-assembly with the nut

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) 

  3. INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  4. INSTALL KNOCK SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )

  5. INSTALL E.F.I. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  6. INSTALL ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  7. INSTALL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  8. INSTALL ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the oil pressure switch

      Adhesive: 

      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent

    2. Using a deep socket wrench (24 mm), install the oil pressure switch.

      Torque: 15 N*m (153 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf) 

    NOTE: Do not start the engine for at least 1 hour after installing the switch.

  9. INSTALL NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the No 2 water by-pass pipe sub-assembly with the 4 bolts

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the 3 water by-pass hoses with the 3 hose clamps.

  10. INSTALL INLET WATER HOUSING 
    1. Install the inlet water housing and a new gasket with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

    2. Connect the inlet water hose with the hose clamp
  11. INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY  (See INSTALLATION )
  12. INSTALL OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT PULLEY  (See INSTALLATION )

  13. INSTALL NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the bolt and idler pulley.

      Torque: 43 N*m (439 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)

  14. INSTALL NO. 4 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the engine cover

  15. INSTALL NO. 5 ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Install the engine wire with the 2 bolts

      Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 in.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the 4 knock sensor connectors
  16. INSTALL FUEL INJECTOR SEAL  (See INSTALLATION )
  17. INSTALL FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY (for Direct Injection)  (See INSTALLATION )

  18. INSTALL NO. 2 FUEL DELIVERY PIPE (for Direct Injection)  (See INSTALLATION )
  19. INSTALL FUEL DELIVERY PIPE (for Direct Injection)  (See INSTALLATION )
  20. INSTALL SEPARATOR CASE  (See INSTALLATION )
  21. INSTALL NO. 4 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  22. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  23. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  24. INSTALL FUEL PUMP SPACER 
    1. Install the 2 fuel pump spacers.
  25. INSTALL FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)  (See INSTALLATION )
  26. INSTALL NO. 3 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  27. INSTALL ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)  (See INSTALLATION )
  28. INSTALL FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)  (See INSTALLATION )
  29. INSTALL NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  30. INSTALL ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)  (See INSTALLATION )
  31. INSTALL FUEL PRESSURE PULSATION DAMPER ASSEMBLY (for Direct Injection)  (See INSTALLATION )
  32. INSTALL NO. 3 COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  33. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  34. CONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE 
    1. Connect the water by-pass pipe hose, No. 3 water by-pass hose and No. 9 water by-pass hose with the 3 clamps to the water by-pass pipe sub-assembly.
  35. INSTALL INJECTOR DRIVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  36. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  37. INSTALL TRANSMISSION BREATHER ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )

  38. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Install the 2 wire harness clamp brackets with the 2 bolts

      Torque: for LH side 

      21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

      for RH side 

      29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf)

  39. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET RH 
    1. Install the mounting bracket with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

  40. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 
    1. Install the mounting bracket with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  41. INSTALL ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Install the engine wire

  42. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Install the 2 engine hangers with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration

    Item Part No.
    Engine hanger 12081-38020
    Bolt 90119-14120

    Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) 

  43. REMOVE ENGINE STAND 
    1. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
      NOTE: When hanging the engine, make sure to hang the engine with the chain at an angle of 50° or less. Otherwise, the engine or engine hangers may be damaged.
    2. Remove the bolts and engine assembly from the engine stand.
