Test 2: Cruise Control Indicator Does Not Illuminate
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect METER (10-amp) fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. Replace fuse if faulty, then retest cruise control system. If fuse blows immediately, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect cruise control actuator harness, then turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between cruise control actuator harness terminal "J" (White/Blue wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, replace cruise control actuator. See ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect cruise control indicator bulb and bulb connector. Repair if necessary, then retest cruise control system. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between instrument cluster terminal 3N (Yellow/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair wiring between METER (10-amp) fuse and instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between instrument cluster harness terminal 1J (White/Blue wire) and ground. If continuity exists, repair wiring harness between instrument cluster and cruise control actuator. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, replace instrument cluster. Then retest cruise control system.
