Test 3: Cruise Speed Is Not Constant

- Operate cruise control system. If vehicle speed varies when traveling up and down inclines, and not on a level surface, inform customer that cruise controls system is operating properly. If problem occurs when vehicle is traveling on a level surface, go to next step.
- Operate vehicle with cruise control system disengaged. If vehicle speed still fluctuates without driver input, the problem is not with cruise control system. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS (2.0L) or SELF-DIAGNOSTICS (2.5L) article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If vehicle speed does not vary, go to next step.
- Inspect cruise control actuator cable free play. See ACTUATOR CABLE FREE PLAY under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust if necessary, then retest cruise control system.
