Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
- CKP sensor is located on front of engine, near crankshaft pulley. Disconnect CKP sensor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals "A" and "B" at CKP sensor. See Fig 1
. Resistance should be as specified. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS
table.
- If resistance is not as specified, replace CKP sensor. If resistance is as specified, measure CKP sensor air gap. Air gap should be .020-.060" (.5-1.5 mm). On Miata and Protege 1.6L, when testing or replacing CKP sensor, set air gap to .020-.060" (.5-1.5 mm). On all models, if air gap is not as specified, replace CKP sensor or crankshaft pulley. MPV has no air gap specification.
