July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

  1. CKP sensor is located on front of engine, near crankshaft pulley. Disconnect CKP sensor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals "A" and "B" at CKP sensor. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be as specified. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  2. If resistance is not as specified, replace CKP sensor. If resistance is as specified, measure CKP sensor air gap. Air gap should be .020-.060" (.5-1.5 mm). On Miata and Protege 1.6L, when testing or replacing CKP sensor, set air gap to .020-.060" (.5-1.5 mm). On all models, if air gap is not as specified, replace CKP sensor or crankshaft pulley. MPV has no air gap specification.
