Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access FTP V PID data. If FTP V PID is more than 4.8 volts, go to next step. If FTP V PID is 4.8 volts or less, problem is intermittent. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect FTP connector. Check connector for loose or damaged terminals, poor contact or corrosion. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 8.
- Check for continuity between ground and FTP sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Black/Red wire). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, check connector for loose or damaged terminals, poor contact or corrosion. Repair as necessary and go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between FTP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Red/Green wire) and terminal "C" (Light Green/Red wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short between Red/Green wire and Light Green/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 8.
- Disconnect appropriate PCM connector. Check for continuity of Red/Green wire between FTP sensor harness connector terminal "A" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 4AB. See Figure. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Red/Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 8.
- Inspect PCM harness connector. Check connector for loose or damaged terminals, poor contact or corrosion. Repair as necessary and go to next step. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition off. Start engine. Using scan tool, ensure FTP V PID is .2-4.8 volts and ECT PID is less than 176°F (80°C). Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0453 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P0453 is not present, go to next step.
- Cycle ignition from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
