Steering System - Power: Description

Power steering system is composed of power steering pump/reservoir, high pressure hoses and steering gear. The ZF61 and VT161 pumps on 190E models look similar, but are not interchangeable. These pumps are made of a light alloy material. Alloy pumps are not interchangeable with the cast iron type. All pumps are belt-driven, vane-type units with an internal control valve. Some systems have an automatic compensation for free-play in steering gear.
