ENGINE COMPARTMENT INTERMITTENT CONCERN DIAG PROCESS

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

APPLICATION

All 1985, Lincoln, Mercury, Light Trucks

SUBJECT

Engine Compartment Wiring - Servicing Terminals/Connectors on 12A581 and 14290 Assemblies for Intermittent Concerns.

REFERENCE

Ford Technical Service Bulletin No. 85-17-3

CONDITION & CAUSE

The following procedures should be performed before the start of normal diagnostics when suspect intermittent symptoms are reported on any of the components listed below.

Component Connectors and Systems Affected:

* TFI Ignition Module

* Map Sensor

* Air Vane Boost Control

* Power Steering

* ISC

* Fuel Injector

* Anti-Skid Pressure Switch

* Anti-Skid Control Valve

* Fluid Level Sensor

* Main Hydraulic Valve

REPAIR

Connector and Terminal Inspection Repair Procedure is as follows:

  1. Using approximately 3 to 5 Lbs. force, pull on each wire of the subject connector.
  2. Remove the terminal from wire and replace with a new terminal if the terminal pulls out of the connector.
  3. Remove the wedge from connector. Install the new terminal and wire in it.
  4. Pull on the wire again and replace the wedge. Replace connector if the new terminal pulls out of it. A. While leaving the rubber grommet on wires to aid in reinstalling the terminals in the correct position in the connector, remove the wedge from connector and remove the remaining terminals. B. Reinstall all terminals into the new connector. Reinstall the wedge. C. Locking fingers completely over the ramp, install the new connector making sure that it is fully seated to the mating connector.
