Ignition Timing

NOTE: Timing adjustment on Merkur XR4Ti with EEC-IV is not a normal tune-up procedure.
  1. Place transmission selector in Park (auto. trans.) or Neutral (man. trans.). Ensure A/C is off. Connect an inductive timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire. Connect an accurate tachometer to engine.
  2. Disconnect single wire Black connector located near distributor. Start engine and warm up to operating temperature. Check and adjust idle speed. See IGNITION TIMING table.
  3. After adjustment of timing stop engine. Reconnect single wire Black connector or vacuum hose and remove test equipment.
