DTC 21: Front Wheel Speed Sensor Open Circuit

NOTE: DTC 21 is set if speed signal of front wheel has differed from rear wheel by 5 MPH or more (for 5 seconds or more) due to an open circuit.
  1. Retrieve Automatic Transmission (A/T) DTCs. See RETRIEVING DTCS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If A/T DTC 32 is also set, see the appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If A/T DTC 32 is not set, turn ignition off.
  2. Disconnect TCL module connector. See Figure . Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector. TCM is located behind center console. See Fig 1 . Using DVOM in ohmmeter mode, check continuity of White wire between TCL module connector terminal No. 55 and TCM connector terminal No. 10. See Figure and Fig 2 .
  3. If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuit as needed. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity exists, check voltage with engine running between TCL module connector terminal No. 55 ground. If voltage is 4-5 volts, replace TCM. If voltage is not as specified, inspect and repair circuit for short to ground. If circuit is okay, replace TCM.
