No Response Test 1A - BCM No Response Or No Power To Module Trouble Code
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Stratus and 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 (10-amp) from junction block. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to next step. If fuse is open, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from junction block and ensure 12-pin connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of junction block cavity No. 10 (ground circuit). If resistance is less than 20 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 20 ohms, repair open ground circuit.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on junction block cavity No. 12 (fused battery voltage circuit). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on junction block cavity No. 6 (fused ignition switch output circuit). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM.
- Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of fused ignition switch output side of fuse No. 11 (Red/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 11. If in this test because of no response, repeat beginning of NO RESPONSE TEST 1A.
- Turn ignition off. Remove BCM from junction block. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of fused ignition switch output side of fuse No. 11 (Red/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Violet wire and replace fuse No. 11. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM and replace fuse No. 11. If in this test because of no response, repeat beginning of NO RESPONSE TEST 1A.
