Using Voltmeter

Using Diagnostic Trouble Code Check Harness (MB991529), connect voltmeter to Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 9 (ETACS-ECU) and terminal No. 4 (ground) or No. 5 (ground). See Fig 1 . Operate indicated switches. See SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL REQUIREMENTS  table. If switch input signal is received at DLC, voltmeter needle will fluctuate once. If switch input is not received at DLC, diagnose problem. See INPUT SIGNAL SYMPTOM TEST INDEX  table.

SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL REQUIREMENTS

Input Signal Condition To Activate Input Signal
Ignition Switch (ACC) Turn From LOCK To ACC Position
Ignition Switch (IG1) Turn From ACC To ON Position
Key Reminder Switch Remove Ignition Key From Ignition Key Cylinder
Hazard Light Switch Turn Switch From OFF To ON Position
Foglight Switch (1) Turn Switch From OFF To ON Position
Backup Light Switch (2) Move Shift Lever To "R" Position
Park/Neutral Position Switch (3) Move Selector Lever To "R" Position
Rear Wiper Motor Auto-Stop Signal (4) (5) Rear Wiper Begins To Operate
Driver's Seat Belt Switch With Ignition Switch In ON Position, Remove Seat Belt Tongue From Belt Buckle
Driver's Or Passenger's Door Switch Open Appropriate Door
Driver's Or Passenger's Door Lock Key Cylinder Switch Using Key, Turn Door Lock To LOCK Or UNLOCK Position
Driver's Or Passenger's Door Lock Actuator Switch Move Appropriate Door Lock Knob To LOCK Or UNLOCK Position
Door Lock Switch (6) Press LOCK Or UNLOCK Side Of Switch
Hood Switch (7) Open Hood
Liftgate Latch Switch (7) Open Liftgate
Liftgate Lock Key Cylinder Switch (7) Using Key, Turn Liftgate Lock To UNLOCK Position

Taillight Switch Turn Lighting Switch From OFF Position To TAILLIGHT Position
Headlight Switch Turn Lighting Switch From TAILLIGHT Position To HEADLIGHT Position
Passing Light Switch Turn Dimmer/Passing Switch From OFF To PASSING Position

PANIC Switch (7) Turn From OFF To ON Position
(1) If equipped.
(2) On vehicles with manual transmission and rear wiper and washer.
(3) On vehicles with automatic transmission and rear wiper and washer.
(4) On vehicles with rear wiper and washer.
(5) Input signal is sent just before rear wiper begins to operate.
(6) Incorporated in power window main switch and power window sub-switch.
(7) Vehicles with anti-theft alarm system.
(8) Rotate intermittent wiper interval adjusting knob from FAST to SLOW position when ignition switch is in ON position. ETACS-ECU sends signal around medium knob position.
(9) On vehicles with rear wiper and washer.
(10) On vehicles with sunroof.
(11) On vehicles with keyless entry.
