Overall Function Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could be caused by high-pressure fluid escaping from the radiator. Wrap a thick cloth around the cap. Carefully remove the cap by turning it a quarter turn to allow built up pressure to escape. Then turn the cap all the way off.
NOTE: Use this procedure to check the overall function of the coolant overtemperature enrichment protection check, a DTC might not be confirmed.
NOTE: For diagnostic procedure, see DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE , for ECT component inspection, see COMPONENT INSPECTION  under DTC P0117 OR DTC P0118: ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, for Idle speed, ignition timing and idle mixture ratio adjustment, see IDLE SPEED, IGNITION TIMING & IDLE MIXTURE RATIO ADJUSTMENT in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article.
