INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: Selector Lever cannot be Moved from "R" to "P" Position.: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Check the connection of selector lever assembly and transaxle control cable. 

    Q: Is the connection of selector lever assembly and transaxle control cable in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Repair the connection of selector lever assembly and transaxle control cable. Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  2. STEP 2. Check the fit of the lock cam. 

    Q: Is the lock cam installed correctly? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Install the lock cam correctly. Refer to DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  3. STEP 3. Check the lock cam. 

    Q: Is the lock cam in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Replace the lock cam. Refer to DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  4. STEP 4. Check the fit of the transaxle control cable. 

    Q: Is the transaxle control cable installed correctly? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Install the transaxle control cable correctly. Refer to TRANSAXLE CONTROL . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  5. STEP 5. Check the transaxle control cable. 

    Q: Is the transaxle control cable in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the selector lever assembly. Refer to TRANSAXLE CONTROL and . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "P" position to "R" position smoothly.
    2. NO:  Replace the transaxle control cable. Refer to TRANSAXLE CONTROL . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
