INSPECTION PROCEDURE 6: Ignition Key cannot be Turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) Position when Selector Lever is at "P" Position.: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Check the connection of lock cam and key interlock cable. 

    Q: Is the connection of lock cam and key interlock cable in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Repair the connection of lock cam and shift lock cable. Check that the ignition key can not be turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) position with the selector lever at "P" position.
  2. STEP 2. Check the fit of the lock cam. 

    Q: Is the lock cam installed correctly? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Install the lock cam correctly. Refer to DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  3. STEP 3. Check the lock cam. 

    Q: Is the lock cam in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Replace the lock cam. Refer to DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY . Check that the selector lever can be moved from "R" position to "P" position.
  4. STEP 4. Check the fit of the key interlock cable. 

    Q: Is the key interlock cable installed correctly? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Install the key interlock cable correctly. Refer to A/T KEY INTERLOCK AND SHIFT LOCK MECHANISMS . Check that the ignition key can not be turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) position with the selector lever at "P" position.
  5. STEP 5. Check the key interlock cable. 

    Q: Is the key interlock cable in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Replace the key interlock cable. Refer to A/T KEY INTERLOCK AND SHIFT LOCK MECHANISMS . Check that the ignition key can not be turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) position with the selector lever at "P" position.
  6. STEP 6. Check the fit of the transaxle control cable. 

    Q: Is the transaxle control cable installed correctly? 

    1. YES:  Replace the steering lock cylinder assembly. Refer to STEERING WHEEL AND SHAFT ASSEMBLY and DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY . Check that the ignition key can not be turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) position with the selector lever at "P" position.
    2. NO:  Install the transaxle control cable correctly. Refer to TRANSAXLE CONTROL . Check that the ignition key can not be turned to the "LOCK" (OFF) position with the selector lever at "P" position.
