Inspection Procedure 1: Communication With Scan Tool Is Not Possible: Diagnosis

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Check that the powertrain control module communicates with the scan tool. 
    1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
    3. Check if scan tool MB991958 can communicate with the powertrain control module.

    Q: Is the check result satisfactory? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART or DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .

  2. STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line 

    Use scan tool MB991958 to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

    Q: Is the check result satisfactory? 

    1. YES:  Diagnose the power supply circuit. Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT, INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3: ODOMETER AND TRIP METER ARE NOT DISPLAYED, INSPECTION PROCEDURE 4: ALL THE NEEDLE METERS DO NOT WORK PROCEDURE 5: WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE INDICATOR AND WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE  .
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DIAGNOSIS ).
