Test 34A - Headlights Will Not Turn Off

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. Perform TEST VER - 1A after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure headlight switch is off. Disconnect Natural body controller connector. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If headlights go off, replace body controller.
  2. If headlights are still on, remove headlight low beam relay from power distribution center. If headlights are still on, go to step 5). If headlights go off, gain access to back of power distribution center.
  3. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance of relay control circuit at low beam relay connector terminal No. 32 (Orange/White wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace headlight low beam relay. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect left pod switch assembly. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  4. Measure resistance of relay control circuit at low beam relay connector terminal No. 32 (Orange/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/White wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace left pod switch.
  5. If headlights did not go off in step 2), remove fuses No. 17 and 18. If both headlights go off, repair short to voltage in Violet/White wire between headlight low beam relay and fuses. If right headlight does not go off, repair short to voltage in Red/Orange wire between high beam relay and right headlight. If left headlight does not go off, repair short to voltage in Violet/White wire between high beam relay and left headlight.
