Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

The inputs from the Transaxle Range Switch (PRNDL) indicate to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which gear the transaxle selector lever has selected. This information is used for ignition timing, canister purge and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve operation.

CAUTION: Vehicle should not be driven with transaxle range switch disconnected, as idle quality will be affected.
