Removal & Installation: Compressor: Installation

CAUTION: NEW GM A/C compressors are shipped WITHOUT poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect PAG oil can result in compressor failure.
  1. If a NEW A/C compressor is being installed, add 2 oz. (60 ml) of PAG oil to the compressor. Install the crankcase oil drain bolt to the compressor. Tighten the drain bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Install the spacer and the compressor. Install the compressor bolts to the engine. See Figure. Tighten the bolts to specification. Install new sealing washers to the compressor. Install the hose assembly to the compressor. See Figure. Install the hose assembly bolt to the compressor. Tighten the bolt to specification.
  3. Connect the electrical connection to the compressor. Install the right front fender liner. Lower the vehicle. Install the drive belt. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING.
