Test B: Charge Indicator Light Always On

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora and 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was not performed, go to ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under ON-VEHICLE TESTING.
  2. Start engine. If battery charge indicator light remains illuminated after 5 second bulb check, go to next step. If battery charge indicator light does not remain illuminated after 5 second bulb check, problem may be intermittent. Check wiring and connections, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Using scan tool, observe BATTERY VOLTAGE parameter in Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. If parameter indicates 10-15 volts, go to next step. If parameter does not indicates 10-15 volts, go to TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  4. Replace IPC. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  5. Operate system to verify repair. If condition was found and corrected, system is okay. If condition was not found, go to step  2 .
