Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, and 2002 Chevrolet Chevy Express. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the cable to the vehicle.

    Ensure the cable is routed correctly and installed in the retainer clips.

    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Connect the positive lead to the generator.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the generator output (BAT) nut to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

  3. Install the positive lead to the starter solenoid.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the positive lead to starter solenoid to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  4. If equipped with the 6.5L engine, install the positive lead to the junction block.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the junction block nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the battery terminals to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

  6. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .

  7. Install the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank and the bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank bolt to 11 N.m (97 lb in).
