Park/Neutral Position Switch: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Place the shift shaft in the NEUTRAL position. Align the flats of the shift shaft to the flats in the PNP switch.
  2. Install the PNP switch mounting bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the switch electrical connectors.
  3. NOTE: Ensure that the engine will only start in the PARK or NEUTRAL positions.
  4. Readjust the switch if the engine will start in any other position. Place the transaxle control shifter assembly in the NEUTRAL position in the detent plate.
  5. Loosen the PNP switch attaching bolts. Rotate the switch on the shifter assembly in order to align the service adjustment hole with the carrier tang hole.
  6. Insert a 3/32" (2.34 mm) maximum diameter gauge pin to a depth of 9/64" (9.0 mm). Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
