Air Injection System

  1. Check all hoses and connections. Disconnect air by-pass hose from air cleaner. If vehicle is equipped with HAC system, disconnect vacuum hose from lower port of HAC valve, and plug hose end.
  2. Check EACV with engine cold. With coolant temperature below 43°F (6°C), start engine and check that air is discharged from air by-pass hose. See Fig 2.
  3. Check EACV with engine warm including thermo switch (1) and (2) to EACV. Warm up engine to between 64-109°F (18-43°C). With engine idling, check that air is not discharged from air by-pass hose (Man. Trans. only).
  4. Check EACV including oxygen sensor to EACV. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature. Maintain engine speed at 2000 RPM. Check that air is discharged intermittently from air by-pass hose.
  5. Check VCS, race engine and quickly close throttle valve. Check that air is discharged momentarily from air by-pass hose. See Fig 2.
  6. Check TWC thermo sensor to EACV. With engine idling, connect a wire to TWC terminal and terminal E of service connector, which is located on right fender apron behind battery.
  7. Check that intermittent air from air by-pass hose changes to a continuous discharge. Disconnect wire from service connector.
