Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove console box. See Fig 1. Remove left lower instrument finish panel. Remove center instrument finish panel. Remove ashtray.
  2. Remove screws and service hole cover. Disconnect fuel pump and fuel sender gauge connectors. Remove engine under covers. Remove front luggage area under cover.
  3. Remove fuel tank protectors. Drain fuel from fuel tank. Remove intermediate parking brake lever. Remove crossmember. Disconnect parking brake cable from intermediate lever.
  4. Disconnect A/C hoses from body. Disconnect radiator lines from body. Remove fuel tank heat insulators. Remove fuel tank cap. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect fuel and vapor hoses. Remove fuel tank.
  5. Remove screws securing fuel pump and bracket assembly to fuel tank. Remove fuel pump and bracket assembly. Pull lower end of fuel pump (with filter) from bracket.
  6. Remove 2 nuts securing fuel pump wires to fuel pump. Disconnect wires. Disconnect fuel hose from pump. Remove fuel pump. To install, reverse removal procedure.
