Removal & Installation
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove upper console panel by prying sides. Remove screws retaining interior console box. See Fig 1. Remove left lower instrument finish panel. Remove ashtray. Remove center instrument finish panel. Remove ashtray receptacle retainer.
- Disconnect fuel pump and fuel sender gauge connectors located under service hole cover. Remove screws retaining service hole cover. Remove fuel tank gas cap. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Raise vehicle on lift.
- Remove 2 engine undercovers, 2 fuel tank protector/undercovers, and front luggage area undercover. Locate fuel tank drain plug, and drain fuel from fuel tank into suitable container. Remove 4 bolts retaining intermediate parking brake lever. Remove 4 bolts retaining crossmember. Disconnect parking brake cable from intermediate lever.
- Disconnect retaining clamps holding A/C hoses to underbody. DO NOT disconnect A/C hose fittings. Disconnect radiator cooling lines from underbody, DO NOT disconnect radiator cooling lines. Remove 2 fuel tank heat insulators. Disconnect all fuel and vapor hoses from tank. Remove fuel tank.
- Remove screw/bolt securing fuel pump tubing clamp to fuel tank. Remove screws securing fuel pump bracket assembly to fuel tank. Remove fuel pump bracket assembly with fuel lines attached. Pull lower end of fuel pump (with attached filter) from bracket. Remove 2 nuts securing fuel pump wires to fuel pump, and disconnect wires. Disconnect fuel hose from pump. Remove fuel pump.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fuel pump bracket assembly screws to 30 INCH lbs. (3.4 N.m). Tighten fuel tank bands and all crossmember bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m). Check for fuel leakage. See CHECKING FOR FUEL LEAKS.
