Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect distributor harness connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between connector terminals No. 3 and 4. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 180-275 ohms (cold sensor) or 240-325 ohms (hot sensor).
  2. Replace distributor as needed. If sensor is okay, inspect circuits between ECM and distributor for open or short. See wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.7L article. Repair as needed.
  3. If both circuits are okay, inspect sensor air gap. See the REMOVE/INSTALL/OVERHAUL article. If air gap is NOT within specification, replace distributor. If air gap is within specification, replace ECM and retest.
