Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect distributor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between connector terminals No. 3 and 4. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 180-275 ohms (cold sensor) or 240-325 ohms (hot sensor).
  2. Replace distributor as necessary. If sensor is okay, inspect circuits between ECM and distributor for open or short. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary.
  3. If both circuits are okay, inspect sensor air gap. See N - REMOVAL/INSTALL/OVERHAUL article. If air gap is not within specification, replace distributor. If air gap is within specification, replace ECM and retest.
