Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Ensure cylinder No. 1 (front cylinder) is at TDC on compression stroke and groove on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing chain cover. It may be necessary to remove valve cover and check that the one-dot and 2-dot timing marks on camshaft sprockets are aligned. See Fig 1. If timing marks are not aligned, rotate crankshaft pulley one full revolution.
  2. Install NEW "O" ring on distributor housing. Coat "O" ring with engine oil. Align groove on drive gear with protrusion on distributor housing. See Fig 2.
  3. Install distributor. Install and tighten distributor hold-down bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Check ignition timing. See ADJUSTMENTS - 2.7L article.
