Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect distributor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between connector terminals No. 3 and 4. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 185-275 ohms (cold sensor) or 240-325 ohms (hot sensor).
  2. Replace distributor as necessary. If sensor is okay, check for open or short circuit in wiring harness between ECM and distributor. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.7L article. Repair wiring as necessary.
  3. If wiring harness is okay, inspect sensor air gap. See BASIC TESTING - 2.7L article. If air gap is not within specification, replace distributor. If air gap is within specification, replace ECM and retest.
